Town of Vail's Affordable Housing Crisis
We have an affordable housing crisis in the Vail Valley and the East Vail Affordable Housing Project will house 165 employees by December 2023.
“Our employees are at the core of our mission to create an Experience of a Lifetime. Bringing our mission to life for our guests starts by creating it for our employees, and affordable housing is an essential part of that. As our mountain communities have grown, affordable housing has become increasingly more difficult for our employees to access – addressing this must be a top priority for our company and our communities. These projects reflect progress on our commitment and we remain focused on aggressively pursuing more opportunities in our resort communities.” Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch

Project Details
This project and the decisions made to bring it to life respect the environment and the wildlife who call the area home. That’s why Vail Resorts conducted an extensive environmental review, and committed resources to wildlife habitat mitigations and critical improvements. In fact, more than 75 percent of the land is dedicated to natural preservation.
The bighorn sheep winter range is nearly 18,000 acres, and the East Vail affordable housing project commits a tiny fraction to our employees so they can live in harmony with nature. On this map, you will see yellow boxes indicating the project site which sits on a tiny portion of land right next to the frontage road. Most importantly, this map begs the question: why does the Town of Vail continue to support luxury home construction in the sheep winter range, while they condemn affordable housing for employees?
